The top 10 glamping and camping spots across Scotland have been revealed, according to a popular booking site

Now that summer is finally here, peak camping and glamping season is upon us. It is no secret that Scotland is home to countless campsites that make for the perfect holiday — whether you're with friends and family or by yourself.

Pitchup.com is one of the top websites to book a campsite, caravan park, or glamping site in Scotland. The site allows customers to rate the destinations they visit, so is a great resource to see which spots others are keen on. Each destination is then assigned a score between one and 10, based on the average rating of reviews.

The sites are given individual scores out of five for each of the following criteria: location, value for money, accommodation, facilities and activities, customer service, child friendliness, cleanliness, and Wi-Fi.

For anyone struggling to decide where to head this summer, the Daily Record has taken to Pitchup.com and compiled a list of the top 10 glamping and camping destinations around the country based on user reviews.

Coming in at number one is Barstobrick Holiday Lodges in Castle Douglas, consisting of "stylish lodges with stunning views", with an overall score of 10 out of 10 based on 42 reviews. In terms of location, value for money, accommodation, customer service, cleanliness, and Wi-Fi it also received perfect scores, while it has a rating of 4.5 and four for facilities and activities, and child friendliness respectively.

One reviewer on the site wrote: "Modern, well designed, fully equipped lodges with wonderful views both front and back. The Fairy Glen adventure for youngsters and the excellent three-hour 'Puzzle Trail' walk for adults were excellent additions for guests to attempt."

Meanwhile, the second top-rated destination on Pitchup.com is Beirhope Alpacas in Kelso, a rural dog-friendly Scottish Borders site with alpacas and hill views — also with an average score of 10 out of 10 based on 34 reviews. It received full marks for most individual criteria, while being assigned ratings of 4.5 and 3.5 for facilities and activities, and Wi-Fi respectively.

A recent review of the site reads: "Stayed at one of the woodland tent pitches, excellent campsite, plenty of trees, plot was close to car park area but trees provided privacy. Plot was close to a small stream, which was lovely and as an added bonus saw an owl (as well as alpacas)."

Rounding out the top five are Greenhillock Glamping in Forfar, North Muasdale Farm in Muasdale, and Shepherd's Loch in Turriff. The three sites all have average scores of 10 out of 10, based on 20, 18, and 9 reviews respectively.
