10 hacks to keep your house warm this winter
1. Bleed your radiators
This can help make your radiators run more efficiently as it will allow them to heat up properly. You should do this every year before the winter weather settles to make sure you are not colder or spending more money than you need to be.
2. Give your radiators a boost
You can do this by using reflective foil to reflect heat back into your room and away from the wall your radiator is mounted on.
This can help boost the amount of heat in your room without having to add any additional heating methods as it prevents heat loss through your walls.
Reflective foil for radiators can be snapped up from various online stores, such as Amazon. You can purchase Radiator Reflector Panels for just £13.99 from the online retail giant at the moment as part of its Black Friday sale.
3. Use thermostatic values
These valves can be used to easily control the level of heat from each radiator in the rooms around your home. It means that you will not need to crank every radiator up to the max to heat up the room you are sitting in.
Instead, you can pop your living room radiator on high as you chill out and watch TV, your bedroom radiator on low to take the chill off before you head to bed, and even turn radiators in spare rooms down completely if they are not being used.
4. Programme your thermostat
Doing this can prevent you from wasting heat throughout the day.
You can set the time and temperature, meaning you can choose when you want your heating to go on and off and the temperature that shuts off your eating completely.
5. Close windows, blinds and curtains
This can help you keep the heat in your home. Having windows open can allow heat from radiators to escape, meaning it can cost you money in time and money to keep your home cosy.
Shutting blinds and curtains can act as an extra seal to keep the heat in.
6. Move furniture away from radiators
Heat can become trapped behind furniture, with large bits of furniture such as your sofa actually absorbing heat. This means that your radiator needs to work harder to heat up the whole room.
Giving radiators space can be an effective when trying to heat your home more efficiently.
7. Insulate walls, pipes and loft space
This one is a litter harder to carry out and includes more time, money and effort to complete. However, it can be worth it when it comes to saving money in the long run and saving on heating costs.
You can stop heat escaping from your loft using items such as High Loft™ ECO-Thermal Building Construction Loft Insulation Roll, costing just £23.99 from Amazon in the Black Friday sale. Snap up the installation here.
