The world's largest broadcaster, with 23,000 employees, was founded in 1922. Funded by an annual TV licence fee in the UK, the BBC's output includes TV, radio, websites and magazines. Affectionately known in Britain as "the Beeb" or "Auntie", its reputation has been affected in recent years by a series of high-profile controversies.
