A mum was "crushed" to death on a night out during her summer holiday. Patricia Bernadette Ward died in hospital after being hit by a Mini Cooper in Gumbet, Bodrum, Turkey, on June 6, 2022.
The 67-year-old had travelled to the popular party town with her friend and the pair were walking through an area filled with bars and clubs at around 2.15am when she was struck by the car, Teesside Live reports.
An inquest into Patricia's death heard that she was pinned between the Mini and a nightclub wall. She was rushed to hospital but later died.
The inquest at Teesside Coroner's Court heard statements from the friend who had been with Patricia at the time of the incident, as well as Turkish police. Her family also provided a statement, saying Ms Ward: "loved life, sun and going on holiday with friends."
The friend told how they were staying at the Parkim Hotel and were walking to The Central Bar when tragedy struck. She said there was about a "one to two step distance" between the pair when the white Mini hit Patricia.
The inquest heard that she was "crushed" against the wall of the Alora nightclub. Coroner Karin Welsh stated that Ms Ward’s death was registered in Turkey following her death and her cause of death was listed as fractures and lacerations due to "blunt general trauma."
Coroner Welsh stated that the crash was investigated by Turkish police and proceedings have now concluded.It was recorded that Ms Ward died as a result of a road traffic collision.
