Flying Scotsman Gary Anderson had his wings clipped as he fell to defeat to third seed Gerwyn Price in the PDC World Championship final.
The Welshman is known as the Iceman but he was on fire at Alexandra Palace, though he had to survive some late yips to claim a first world crown.
Price won by seven sets to three, finishing with a double five to put his name on the trophy.
The Musselburgh -born 50-year-old had history with Sunday's opponent, with the pair famously clashing at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts.
Price was the first Welshman ever to reach the PDC world final while his opponent had taken back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016.
Anderson beat Dave Chisnall in Saturday's semi-finals and was competing in his fifth final.
The Flying Scotsman also held the head-to-head advantage at 8-7 going into the match, with £500,000 on the line.
Anderson took a two leg lead in the opening set but missed four to take the set and allowed Price to take it to a decider, which he won.
The real Flying Scotsman came out in the second though as he threw a maximum followed by a 128 checkout before taking the set and tying the match.
But it was the Iceman who dominated the match as he blew the Scotsman away.
In the sixth set he set a world championship record with a set average of 136.6 to take a 5-1 lead.
Against that kind of darts there was nothing Anderson could do, with Price hitting a doubles record of 75 per cent.
The Welshman couldn't maintain that though as Anderson took the seventh set after some poor throws from Price.
But it proved a temporary respite as Price took the next set.
He had match darts repeatedly in the decider but the ice had left Price's veins.
Anderson took the eighth and ninth as his opponent wasted 11 match darts in a nervy performance that saw his doubling percentage drop to just 40.
But, after a quick trip to see the trophy, Price finally sealed it with a double 5.
Speaking after the match he admitted: "I've never felt pressure like that in my life.
"When you have three darts in your hand to win it you think you're going to take it but that was tough."
