Hogmanay

Traditionally more important than Christmas in Scotland, Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) is marked by whisky, first-footing, the singing of Auld Lang Syne and many a sore head the next day. Edinburgh is usually home to one of the world's most famous New Year parties - complete with a spectacular fireworks display - which attracts thousands of visitors.
