Housing has long split opinion in Scotland with 'council houses' slowly becoming a thing of the past and replaced by local social landlords. The Housing Act (2010) was designed to safeguard social housing by reforming the Right to Buy legislation and improve value for tenants and taxpayers by modernising social housing regulation. Margaret Burgess, who is MSP for Cunninghame South, is the current housing and welfare minister, having replaced Keith Brown in 2012.
