A convicted paedophile who threw his own urine over his mum has been spared jail after breaching a court ban on contacting her. Joseph Carson, 65, was previously ordered not to contact his mum, Jane Carson, 87, after inundating her with poison pen letters.
He was also previously banned from contacting her former boyfriend Ronald Moreland, his de facto adopted sister Gayle McMillan, and her husband Alan McMillan after bombarding them with hate-filled messages.
But he has repeatedly ignored the ban, landing in the dock in 2021 for sending his mum an 84th birthday card. And Carson, who was previously jailed for sex offences against an underage girl, was back at Paisley Sheriff Court last week for ignoring it once again.
He was spared jail after being convicted of eight charges of ignoring the court imposed Non-Harrasment Order (NHO). Two charges were in relation to his mum, two for contacting Mr Moreland, two for harassing Mrs McMillan, and two for targeting Mr McMillan.
He was placed on a Community Payback Order, which will see him supervised by social workers for a year, and was made the subject of another Non-Harassment Order, for a period of five years.
In 2021, Mrs Carson, of Erskine, Renfrewshire, told the same court how she was so angry at receiving a birthday card from him that she binned it.
She explained: "When I opened the card it said, 'Hi, mum, hope you're having a lovely birthday. Your loving son, Joseph. I tore it up in two halves. I was very angry."

In November 2019, Carson was made the subject of a 10-year-long NHO in relation to Mr and Mrs McMillan, after hounding them with hate-filled letters for over five years.
In March 2020, in Renfrew, near Glasgow, he put posters up claiming the McMillans were criminals. Supermarket worker Mr McMillan previously also gave evidence, telling the court his wife was making her way to work when she spotted one on a bus stop.
He explained: "It was regarding me and my wife. I went up and down Paisley Road, where I found five or six more. Neighbours also received something in the post."
Carson, of Machrihanish, Argyll and Bute, was jailed for 42 months at the High Court in Paisley in 1992, for sexually abusing a girl aged between 12 and 16.
And in 2014 at Paisley Sheriff Court he was placed on a Community Payback Order after being convicted of assaulting his mum and Mr Moreland at her home.
He grabbed Mr Moreland, who was 74 at the time, and headbutted him, knocking him to the ground, and threw his pee on him and his mother, who was then aged 77.
In 2021 he was also found in Contempt of Court, following an incident where his trial collapsed after he claimed he was too worried about catching Covid-19 to sit in the dock.
