Ryder Cup in pictures as Team Europe celebrate

Europe gets off to a dream start with a record equaling lead over USA

Europe took a 6.5 to 1.5 lead on day 1, and it's the first time in Ryder Cup history that Team USA failed to win a single match in a day, none of the foursomes matches reached the 18th hole.

Ryder Cup legend Lee Westwood has insisted he does not miss representing Team Europe despite missing out on the chance to make history because of LIV Golf. Westwood was watching from home and tweeted: "That was a great day's viewing. Keep it up #TeamEurope."

Rory McIlroy tells LIV Golf rebels they’ll miss the Ryder Cup more than Team Europe will miss them

Zach Johnson branded 'a disgrace' for Ryder Cup humiliation as 2 big Team USA decisions blamed for day one embarrassment

"Historic day," European captain Luke Donald said "But we want it to be an historic week. So the job is certainly not done. We will all celebrate an amazing day, but we'll be back tomorrow morning with the goal of trying to win tomorrow morning's session."

U.S. captain Zach Johnson could only offer hope that the tide would turn. He offered no excuses other than a mysterious mention of a bug going through the U.S. team. "It did not go in our favor today. Doesn't mean it can't tomorrow or Sunday," Johnson said. "Tip my cap to the European team for playing great golf. Our time's coming."

Thousands of great images from day 1 alone, we've picked some of our favourites to share.
