A shaken Scots company boss received a threatening phone call less than 48 hours after one of his vehicles was firebombed.

The suspect was caught on CCTV approaching the Renault lorry as it was parked up at a storage facility in Glasgow on Sunday night.

Moments later, the £7000 vehicle burst into flames - with two fire crews quickly racing to the scene on Barfillan Drive. A police probe has also been launched.

A-Team Removals owner Nigel Mullan has spoken out after taking a call from an unknown man on Tuesday, who threatened to torch the remainder of his removals fleet.

The 45-year-old told the Record: "This is definitely a targeted attack because I’ve now had a phone call from someone saying: 'How’s your big lorry?' I asked him what he was talking about and he said: 'Just watch, your vans are going to get burnt one by one and the next one will be tonight'.

"Then he said there would be two of the vans burning in Bishopbriggs which is very strange because I don’t have any there. I’ve got another six vans sitting all over Glasgow though which is a bit concerning.

"There lorry wasn't even signposted yet and there were no details of my company on it. It still had the name and logo of the previous company on it. So I'm not entirely sure how they knew it was one of mine. I

"I've been doing this job for 11 years and never had any problems. I just don’t get it or understand why this is happening. It’s just not right and nothing is adding up for me.

"It was just my lorry that was set on fire, nothing else at the facility was damaged."

Family-man Nigel received a call from the storage company on Monday afternoon, telling him his lorry had been torched overnight.

He added: "They’ve been caught on CCTV and you can see someone cycling past, climbing over a fence, sneaking past the containers and approaching the lorry.

"It then goes up in flames. The first service busted through the gate just a few minutes after it was reported to them and they put it out. Then CID came to see it on Monday morning. It’s very, very strange.

"I honestly don’t know why someone is doing this. I bought the lorry about six months ago but it’s been in storage while we were waiting to get an operator's licence. I decided to buy the lorry because we’re so busy at the moment.

"So the thought was, if one job needed four of our smaller vans, we could just do it one go with this one. So this is obviously going to have an impact on the business going forward."

Mr Mullan has appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the person responsible to contact the police.

Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating. A force spokesperson said: "We received a report of a fire at Barfillan Road in Glasgow which happened around 10.15pm on Sunday, 24 September, 2023. Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 10.10pm on Sunday, 24 September to reports of a vehicle fire near to Barfillan Drive, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the incident where crews extinguished the flames. Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A separate fire broke out on the same industrial estate in May 2019 after a quantity of barrels went up in flames. Four crew were sent to the scene as thick, black smoke billowed into the Glasgow skyline.

A spokesperson for the UPAC Group, who own the yard where the lorry was parked, said: “We can confirm that an incident took place at the yard on Sunday. No other containers or vehicles were affected. We have forwarded the CCTV to the police and are fully cooperating with their investigation.”

The spokesperson added: “UPAC Storage wishes to state it has no affiliation with A-Team storage beyond the rental of a few containers and the storage of this vehicle was being offered on a temporary basis only.”
