Wishaw boxer Darren Johnstone aims to line up a title fight for next year, as a stepping stone to his dream of a British title shot.
Super middleweight puncher Johnstone takes on Tanzania’s Shabani Ally Ndaro on Saturday, November 18, as the headline fight on Ring Time Promotions’ ‘The Equaliser’ night at the Mariott Hotel in Glasgow.
Both fighters are looking for a seventh win, and for 25-year-old Johnstone that will be in a row, whereas opponent Ndaro wants seven from nine, with a loss and a draw thrown in.
Should Johnstone come up trumps, that will line him up for a Commonwealth Silver or Celtic title shot in March or April next year, which will go a long way towards his ultimate aim.
Johnstone said: “This is an opportunity to get my name out there.
“I’ve been aiming to get a British title fight, that’s my dream and what I’m aiming for.
“Hopefully I can get the win, it could set me up for a Scottish title this year, and a Celtic or Commonwealth Silver title next year.
“It would mean a lot, the whole idea is to win titles and get my name out there.
“Winning this fight would mean a lot to me and my family, to make my family and myself proud.
“It’s going to be a big fight in front of a big crowd.
“A lot of tickets have been sold, so hopefully it will be a right good night and we can get the win – fingers crossed.
“I would like to thank Ring Time Promotions and Kynoch Boxing for the opportunity.”
